The Faculty of Jewish Studies at Bar-Ilan University is a unique institution of its kind in the world, due to the wide variety of researchers working within it. The faculty has always been known for producing Israel Prize laureates and members of the National Academy of Sciences.
The Faculty of Jewish Studies strives for academic excellence and will work to promote cooperation between departments and faculties; to promote internationalization and develop unique study programs; to promote innovation in teaching and research fields and to strengthen connections with the community and society.
Prof. Michael Avioz completed all his academic degrees at Bar-Ilan University. He teaches in the Department of Bible and is engaged in the study of biblical historiography, prophecy, and early biblical interpretation. He has mentored many students in each of these fields.
In these areas, he has published numerous books and articles. In recent years, he has focused on early biblical interpretation, especially that of Josephus Flavius. In this field, he has published two books and many articles. In the past, Prof. Avioz served as head of the Bible Department and as head of the international master's program in this department.
